FleXibeam™ Hybrid Centerbeam

The FleXibeam™ Hybrid Center Beam Car is the optimal car for hauling forest and steel products. The shorter high-strength center beam partition allows easy loading of steel and other products with overhead cranes. This Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) design is used to transport forest products, such as plywood, Oriented Strand Board (OSB), dimensional lumber, and back haul steel products, such as structural steel and pipe.

The FleXibeam™ Hybrid Center Beam Car is a large centerbeam flat car, with a length of 81 feet 6 inches between the end bulkheads. The extra length of this car provides increased capacity of 11 to 13 percent for many forest products, and it also permits the car to carry a variety of steel products. This makes it more versatile and increases the probability of it being loaded on the backhaul. Hauling more than 14,000 pounds of steel products than a conventional bulkhead flat car, the FleXibeam™ is an efficient railcar choice.

Engineering collaboration with BNSF has resulted in a cargo friendly design that does the work of two cars.
