The
Hybrid Gon is a single rotary and full hybrid utility grade
stainless steel and aluminum BethGon® II with 4,115 cubic foot capacity.
Like the aluminum BethGon® II, the Hybrid Gon has been designed to transport coal with unrivaled efficiency. It has a 42,000 pound lightweight which allows for a hefty 244,000 pound payload. The BethGon's® patented double tub floor design utilizes coal carrying capacity like no other gondola. Its innovative longitudinal tub floor design carries an extra 36,000 pounds of coal when compared to traditional gondola designs. It also lowers the BethGon's® center of gravity for a more stable ride, reduced wear, and lower maintenance costs.
The Hybrid Gon is an open top coal car designed with: a steel underframe; utility grade stainless steel and aluminum in Contact with Lading; Outside Stake, Riveted Side Assembly with Two Piece Side Sheet; Sloped Intermediate Floor; Two Interior K Frame Braces with Three Additional Top Ties; Through Center Sill; Twin Rounded Bottom Tubs.
The car design is based on a 286,000 pound gross rail load, AAR Plate "B" clearance diagram, and unit train single rotary dump service operating on track meeting the requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration 49CFR, Part 213.
